Obituary for Alexandros Ioannis Sgouzos Alexandros Ioannis Sgouzos, age 74 of Ann Arbor, Michigan passed away on October 30, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Alex was born on February 2, 1944 in Rovies, Greece to parents Ioannis and Zoi (Anastasiou) Sgouzos. In 1965 Alex joined the Greek Army and defended his country during difficult political times.

Shortly after his time in the Greek Army, at the young age of 23, Alex moved to the United States to pursue a career in soccer and the American dream. It was while dining at a local Ann Arbor restaurant he met Catherine Curby. Alex and Catherine married in 1978 and settled in Ann Arbor raising their two children, Melissa and Kristen.

He was proud to become a citizen of the United States of America in 1981. Alex spent almost 25 years in printing industry working for Ann Arbor Printing and Mailing. He had a love for sports, especially the Detroit Lions, University of Michigan Football, and all soccer.

However, his greatest passion was being around his grandchildren who he loved deeply. Alex is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Catherine (Chee-Chee); his daughters, Melissa (Brian) Manning and Kristen (Ian) Jones; and his grandchildren, Ieuan Jones, Avery, Maddy, and Alexander (Xander) Manning. A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Nie Family Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty Road, Ann Arbor at 10 am.
