Obituary for Steven Gilbert Barnes BARNES, Steven Gilbert, 65, passed away on December 8, 2018 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, after an extended illness. Steven was born on May 20, 1953 to Gilbert T. and Shirley E. (Moser) Barnes in Ypsilanti, they preceded him in death. During his youth, Steve was a Cub Scout, a member of the First United Methodist Church, and enjoyed skiing.

He graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1971. He attended Michigan Technological University in Houghton and received his Boilers License from Washtenaw Community College. He loved traveling throughout the US and around the state of Michigan, especially driving over the Mackinac Bridge with each new car he owned.

Employment included Mellencamp’s Inc., Ypsilanti Public Schools, Rainbow Rehabilitation Centers of southeast Michigan, and Wayne State University. Steven was raised in a loving family and that love was passed on to his daughters and their families. He is survived by his two daughters, Kristie (Calvin Jr.) Cupitt and Lisa Barnes, his four grandchildren, Calvin III, Curtis, and Caitlyn Cupitt, and Mateo Barnes.

His three sisters, Janice (Dennis) Huff, Diane (Stephan)DeBoer, and Cheryl (Dave) Maslowski. His aunt, Betty (Moser) Nardo, his two cousins, Mary (Rick) Farris, and Annette (Tony) Stravino. His great-aunt, A. Minerva (Moser) Gardner, and several second cousins.

A celebration of his life is being planned during the month of May 2019. Arrangements are being handled by Nie Funeral Homes in Ann Arbor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Nie Funeral Homes or memorial donations may be made in Steven’s name to U of M Rogel Cancer Center Liver Cancer Program, victors.
