Obituary for Chiung-Yuan Chen Chiung-Yuan Chen, age 91, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018. Chiung-Yuan was born on August 26, 1927 in Tainan, Taiwan. She married I-Gok Chen in 1948 and spent 23 wonderful years together until his passing in 1971.

Together they had four children James, Benjamin, Stephen, and Yu-Hsin. The Chen family moved from Taiwan to Africa, living in both Liberia and Lesotho, while I-Gok worked for the United Nations. After her husband became ill, they moved back to Taiwan.

After he’d passed away, she decided to take her daughter move to Ann Arbor, Michigan to join her sons. She was an avid reader, devoted to keeping apprised on the political development in her homeland in Taiwan. She was also a wonderful cook who enjoyed creating many dishes.

She enjoyed traveling with her family, visiting many counties around the world as well as many states in America. Chiung-Yuan was a member of the Ann Arbor Taiwanese Association, Michigan Taiwanese Women’s Association Michigan Chapter, and Formosan Association for Public Affairs Michigan Chapter. She attended Ann Arbor Taiwanese Presbyterian Church.

Chiung-Yuan was preceded in death by her husband, I-Gok Chen and her son, Stephen Chen. She is survived by her children, James Chen, Benjamin (Cindy) Chen, and Yu-Hsin (Mark Krietzman) Chen; and her grandchildren, Morgan and Emily Chen and Terren and Graem Krietzman.
