Obituary for Almae Elizabeth Law Almae Elizabeth Law passed away in her sleep on September 11, 2018, at the age of 89. She made Yuba City her home for 48 years, after moving with her family from southern California in 1970. She was a housewife, secretary, bookkeeper, substitute teacher, and a wonderfully giving and servant-hearted person.
She is survived by 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Law. Almae was born on December 9, 1928, in Stephen, MN, to potato farmers Clarence and Edith Johnson.
As a young woman, she attended business school in Grand Forks, ND and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies from Warner Pacific Bible College in Portland, OR. She was active on campus and worked in the administration office where she met her future husband, Gene Law. Almae and Gene were married in Portland, OR, in 1957.
Their first-born, Jonathan Gene, was born in 1960 in Portland, OR; their second son, Randolph Allan was born in 1962 in Corvallis, OR; and their daughter, Melody Ann, was born in 1964 in Montebello, CA. In 1970 Gene and Almae moved their family from the smog and congestion of southern California to Yuba City, where Gene accepted a counseling position at Yuba City High School. Almae attended Queens Avenue Community Church, pastored by Charles (“Duke”) and Pat Elliott.
Almae was a faithful servant of God in the community for many years. She was active in A Women’s Friend Crisis Pregnancy Center and other local ministries. Gene passed away in 1990.
In the late 90’s, a small group of believers gathered in Almae’s living room to form what would become Crossroads Community Church. Almae served as the treasurer at Crossroads for 20 years, until she retired at the age of 80. In 2002, she married Warren Henderson, whom she met at Crossroads.
Warren passed away in 2012. Almae enjoyed camping and traveling with her family. She traveled to Mexico and to Canada, as well as to Alaska, Hawaii, New York, Florida, and many, many states in between.
Another one of Almae’s passions was playing board games, such as Scrabble, and especially card games, like Pinochle and Rummy. She also loved listening to Southern Gospel music. Almae is survived by two sons, Jon Law (married to Karmen) and Randy Law (married to Candi); one daughter, Melody Ewey (married to David); 10 grandchildren, Sam Law (married to Katie), Annaka Jones (married to Zachary), Zac Law (married to Heather), Jonny Law, Rebecca Thomas (married to JT), Raquel Garrett (married to Michael), Janell Howard (married to Ty), Jordan Bennett (married to Josiah), Amaralyn Ewey, and Grace Ewey; three step-grandchildren, Joel, Nathaniel, and Krystal; and 11 great-grandchildren, Lex, Ava, Linkin, Wynter, Harvey, Zeveri, Rhiannon, Ezekiel, Seraphina, Elijah, and Kallah.
