Ann Swanson, 65, of Charleroi, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Born on September 5, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Frank Swanson and Elizabeth “Betty” (Soltis) Swanson, who survives, of Charleroi. She was a member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, Charleroi.

Ann was one of the first nurses to get a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Duquesne University. She got her Masters is Neurology from the Queens College in London, England. She then worked at McGee Hospital and over her career she worked in many Pittsburgh hospitals.

She was head nurse and supervisor in Honolulu, Hawaii. She traveled all over the world with traveling nurses and even worked on Molokai with lepers. When she returned to Charleroi, she worked for home health nursing.

Her hobbies included painting icons and taking part in and enjoying the Arts Pittsburgh has to offer. She actively volunteered with the Carpatho-Rusyn Society, the Carnegie Museum, the Red Cross, and the Uniontown Church Festival. After her nursing career, Ann worked in the area schools with the Intermediate Unit.

She was a woman for all seasons! In addition to her mother, Ann is survived by her brother, Frank G. Swanson, of Charleroi; sisters, Kathleen Swanson Steitler (Robert W.), of Aiken, S.C., and Mary Beth Swanson (David Praisler), of Florida; uncle, Jack Soltis, of Indiana State; nieces and nephews, Laura Steitler Panzer (Hadley), Robert Seth Steitler, and Daniel W. Steitler (Hannah); and great-nephews, Alexe and Ellison Panzer. In addition to her father, she is predeceased by a brother, John Swanson.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 27, in the CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME, 819 Fallowfield Ave. , Charleroi, Joseph A. Lopez, funeral director, where Parastas will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday. Panachida will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, in the funeral home, followed by Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. at Holy Ghost Byzantine Church, Charleroi, with Father Stephen Wahal officiating.

Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
