Obituary for Anthony Goncalves Anthony Goncalves, 81 of Brick, New Jersey died on Thursday, June 21, 2018, surrounded by the love of his family, at his daughter’s home in Old Bridge. Born Sunday, January 17, 1937 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Alvaro and Maria Goncalves. Anthony was born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ.
He would graduate from High School and go on to join the United States Military. He served his country Honorably. Soon after Anthony would meet the love of his life the former Clara Marques, and soon they would marry.
After marriage the couple moved to Avenel, and that is where they would raise their family. After retiring from a long career as a pipe fitter for Merck Pharmaceuticals in Rahway, Anthony and Clara moved to Brick. Anthony enjoyed, fishing, crabbing, and had a talent for woodwork, especially building Bird Houses.
More than anything Anthony was a true family man. There was no place he would rather be than with his family, always there whenever anyone needed anything, and gave his time willingly to whoever needed it. He will be missed by all those that were blessed to have had him in their lives.
Anthony is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Clara, by his loving daughters, Theresa Abrantes and her husband Manny, and Laura Mechkowski and her husband Scott, by his cherished grandchildren, Danielle. Joseph, Daniel, Anthony, and Matthew, and by his caring siblings, Alvaro, and Joanne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:15 AM on Monday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Old Bridge.
Interment will be in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia, NJ. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey.
