Ardis Reed Dizney (Osaka, Seminary, Big Stone Gap, Virginia) Ardis Adene Reed Dizney (96) was born in Stonega, Virginia, August 17, 1922, and passed away February 26, 2019, with her family by her side. She was the ninth and last remaining survivor of the late Joseph Andrew (1962) and Pairlee (Sizemore) Reed (1958).
She was saved at an early age and was a member of Stonega Calvary Baptist Church, Stonega, Virginia. She loved her Lord and Savior and enjoyed going to church. She was happiest when she could help others.
She was a prayer warrior. She was retired from the Old Virginia Sewing Factory in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. She loved her family dearly.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life for 54 years, Elder James C. Dizney (April 5, 2002). Her siblings: Rosa Wilson (1989), Martha Reed (1925), Lona Owsley (2004), Jay Reed (1980), Eugenia “Jennie” Smith (1992), Howard Luther Reed (1917), Ray Reed (1986), Ethel Grubb Meade (2012), Clarence “Steve” Reed (1999), Adeline Fannon (1992), Abe Reed (1985).
A nephew and niece who were like her brother and sister, Kenneth Pleasant (2015), and Mary Pitts Smith (2018). Ex-husband James Shultz (1999). Left to cherish her precious memories are her children: Barbara Shultz Bowen and the late Bobby Bowen, James A. Shultz (Becky), Ardis Drucella “Dru” Dizney Hill, Michael Dizney (Betty), Teresa Dizney Young (Forrest).
A niece who was like her daughter, Darlene Owsley Freeman (Gerald). Grandchildren: Elaine Wilson Lathem (Garth), Aric Perkins, Jeff Perkins (Silvia), Regina Perkins Hill, Terry Kessee, Jack Mullins (Janet), James Paul Shultz (Betty), Mark Shultz (Melinda), Chris Shultz (Jennifer), Tammy Sturgill Haney (Edwin), Darrell “Eddie” Torrey (Lisa), Lauren Dizney Hess (Mike), Zack Dizney, Bridget Young-Trent (Michael), and Heather Young Stewart (Blake). 30 Great-grandchildren and 16 Great-great grandchildren.
Two special nieces: Charlotte Smith Combs (Gale), Angela Grubb Clendenon, and niece in-law, Beatrice Pleasant. And several other nieces and nephews. Special friends Sam and Charlotte Green.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 28, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia, Virginia with services following in the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Rick Phillips and Pastor Tony Nunley. Graveside services will be Friday, March 1, 2019, at 11 a.m., family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 for the procession to Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
Special music will be provided by Glimpse of Grace. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.
Ardis will be laid to rest beside of her beloved husband on Friday, March 1,, 2019, at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in the Mausoleum Chapel. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Laurels Retirement and Assisted Living, Norton, Virginia, Home Health, Hospice caregivers, and Dr. James Wilson. Also, to Nila Jones and Susan Moore Barnett retired employees of Westmoreland Coal Company, and Eloise Watson Lawson retired employee of Representative Rick Boucher’s office.
Her relationship with our Heavenly Father was a reflection of her life. II Timothy 4:6-8 “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing”.
