Obituary for August G. Bender August G. Bender, 94, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Oasis Dementia Care in Evansville. August was born March 30, 1924 in Evansville to the late August and Alma (Wagner) Bender. He worked at Whirlpool for over 30 years before retiring in 1986.

August was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County, the St. Joe Men’s Club, Knights of St. John, Owls, Eagles, Darmstadt Retirees Club, Whirlpool Retirees and the Armstrong Recreation Center. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and dancing with his sweetie. Surviving August are his wife of 64 years, Verena (Voelker) Bender; a daughter, Debbie (Greg) Schneider of Haubstadt; three sons, Donald (Chris) Bender of Evansville, Kenneth (Julie) Bender of Rockport, IN and Curtis (Tina) Bender of Evansville; one sister, Alma Gantner of Evansville; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Julie, Lauren, Jared, Heather, Holly, Hannah, Steven, Brad and Aaron and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, August was preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth and Anna Bender and Emma Butsch; brothers, Phillip, Gilbert, Julius and Bill Bender and by a grandchild, Heath Bender. There will be a mass of Christian burial held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County, Rev. Eugene Schroeder officiating.

Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:30 AM until service time on Saturday at St. Joseph Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6202 W. St. Joseph Road, Evansville, IN 47720.
