Barbara Faye DeLay Sliger, 78, formerly of Madisonville, TN passed away Feb. 1, 2019 at UT Medical Center from complications following a traumatic brain injury. Born in Woodbury, TN to Sam and Erlene DeLay, Dec.

30, 1940, Faye lived in Middle TN in Milton until the family moved to Chattanooga for her father to work for the National Weather Service. A graduate of Tyner High School, Faye earned her B.S. degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a M.S. from the University of Tennessee. Early in her career she was a UT Extension Service Home Economist, serving first Polk County then Hamilton County, where she hosted the TV show Dilly Dally with Faye DeLay.

Upon marriage to Robert (Bob) L. Sliger in 1969 she taught home economics at Hiwassee College in Madisonville. After the birth of their daughter she taught the 2 year old preschool class at the Children’s House in Madisonville for 31 years until her retirement. Faye was a member of the Madisonville Church of Christ and an active member of the community.

A member of the Rhea Craig Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution since 1984, she held many chapter offices including that of Chapter Regent and was currently serving as Honorary Chapter Regent as well as the Tennessee Society Daughters of the American Revolution State Tennessee History Chair at the time of her death. She was an accomplished seamstress and gardener, avid reader, gifted artist, and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandsons. She truly embodied Ecclesiastes 9:10, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Erlene Delay, and her twin infant daughters Barbara LeeAnn and Sally DeeAnn. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Robert L. Sliger of Kingsport, TN; daughter Cecile Sliger Wimberley and son-in-law Matthew Hall Wimberley of Kingsport, TN; grandsons Michael and Matthew; brothers Joe (Kay) DeLay of Henderson, TN, and Sam (Sarah) DeLay of Chattanooga, TN; nieces Daphne (Eric) Dickenson of Birmingham, AL, and Katie Delay of Chattanooga, TN; nephew Joseph DeLay of Chattanooga, TN; and great nephews Cole and Spenser Dickenson. The family will receive friends at Kyker’s Funeral Home in Sweetwater, TN from 3-5pm Monday Feb.

4, 2019. Service to follow at 5pm in the Chapel, with Ministers Jay Cline and Bob Hawk officiating. Interment will be Tuesday 1pm CST at Milton Cemetery in Milton, TN.
