Dr. Basanta Kumar Mahato, 86, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019. He was born August 24, 1932 in Purulia, Bengal, India. Basanta was a chemical engineer at Johnson Controls in Milwaukee, WI.

He lived with his wife, Dr. Prem Mahato in California for 30 years before he moved to NC. A memorial gathering will be held 10:30 am, Friday, January 18, 2019 at Preston Pointe Theater, 1995 NW Cary Parkway, Morrisville, NC 27560. Surviving: son, Dr. Dipak Mahato and wife, Kristin of Raleigh; daughter, Dr. Mita Mahato of Seattle, WA; grandchildren: Kevin Metz, Meredith Metz, Maya Mahato, Derek Mahato.
