Benjamin Ward Burris March 20, 1919 – January 04, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Benjamin Ward Burris, 99, of Smithdale, MS, passed away on January 4, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 1 PM until services at 3 PM at the Mars Hill Baptist Church. Rev.

Joel Williams will officiate and burial will be in the Mars Hill Cemetery. Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb is in charge of arrangements. Ward was born on March 20, 1919 in Smithdale, MS.

He is the son of the late, Morris Lane and Beulah Tabitha Branch Burris. Ward worked for the Kellwood Company and was a member of the Mars Hill Baptist Church. He was a loving family man who was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII serving in the Atlantic theater and in Normandy. He was an avid fisherman and helped make wonderful quilts. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Doris Marie Burris; four brothers, Morris Lane Burris, Grady Morris Burris, Marshall Audrey Burris and E.C. Nettles Jr.; three sisters, Elsie Lillian Parker, Mattie Lucille Smith and Eva Nell Raborn. He is survived by his three sons and their spouses, Terry and Dianna Burris of Smithdale, Tommy and Brenda Burris of Smithdale and Benji and Allene Burris of Prairieville, LA; four daughters, Rita and Bill Shelton of Summerville, SC. , Carol and Denny Duck of Liberty, MS.

, Rebecca Andrews of Winter Park, FL. , and Melissa Burris of Smithdale; fourteen grandchildren, twenty nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren with numerous nieces and nephews; also special friends, Donna, and Gary Scott. Pallbearers will be Lane Burris, Shawn Burris, Shannon Reid, Chris Duck, Mike Roll, Scott Burris and Matthew Evans.
