Bert J. “Tom” Bowmaster, 92, Duncansville, died Friday at his residence. He was born at home in Leamersville, son of the late Albert and Rhoda (Bowser) Bowmaster. He married Mary Ann Plunket in 1948.

She preceded him in death in 1980. Surviving are a daughter, Shirley M. Wike and husband, Rodney, of Altoona; a son, Tom “Bo” and wife, Jan, in Virginia; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and his dearest friend, Jerri Shields of Altoona. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy.

Tom served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He retired from Conrail after 41 years of service. He loved building bird houses, hunting and opening his home to nature.

Friends will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service with military honors will follow at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at St. Monica’s Cemetery.
