Bertha Allsbrooks April 16, 1941 – December 31, 2018 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences Missionary Bertha Allsbrooks was the twelfth child of thirteen siblings to the late Mr. Ned and Mrs. Minnie Massey of Monroe, North Carolina. Missionary Allsbrooks was educated in the Monroe, North Carolina school system. She graduated in the year of 1959 from Western Union High School and later moved to New York City.

Missionary Allsbrooks married Mr. John Allsbrooks and has been a devoted wife of fifty-four years. They were blessed with two sons, Donald (deceased) and Nathan. She was a proud grandmother of two grandchildren, Nathan Jr. (deceased) and Destiny.

In 1983, she became a member of Greater Refuge Temple under the pastorate of Bishop William L. Bonner. She was sweetly saved for forty-four years. Missionary Allsbrooks was a Senior Missionary, a member of the Willing Workers Committee, Sunday School Teacher, New Comers Committee, Assistant Director of the Memorial Choir and a former Vice President of the Greater Refuge Temple Women’s Council Department for over five years under the leadership of Mother Elsire Outlaw.

In 2000, Pastor W. L. Bonner appointed her President. She graciously accepted the position and looked to our Lord Jesus Christ for guidance. By the power of the Holy Ghost she was able to serve with such humility, dedication and commitment for thirteen years.

At our annual Tribute Luncheon she honored the unsung heroes of Greater Refuge Temple by acknowledging those who were overlooked and also those members who seem to be forgotten for their contribution to the body of Christ which were significant. Under her Presidency the Women’s Council Community Outreach was held on the third Saturday in June from the steps of Greater Refuge Temple and into the streets of Harlem where our church is located with preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Worship and Praise, Passing out Tracts to those who pass by and shopping, free food and clothing give-a-way. Many souls were baptized in the Name of Jesus and came back on Sunday to fellowship with us.

Missionary Bertha Allsbrooks was an International Women’s Council Lifetime member, a member of the IWC Nominating Committee at the first Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ Historical Event of Election of the International Women’s Council Officers. She was inducted into the Women’s Council Hall of Fame in October 2014. Missionary Allsbrooks was a graduate of the Church of Christ Bible Institute with a Bachelors of Religious Education.

Missionary Allsbrooks truly was the Women’s Council personified and will be named among the great women who have served the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ specifically as one of the great State Diocese Women’s Council Presidents. One of her favorite scriptures was: Psalm 122:1 “I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord”. Her favorite song: “I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord than to dwell in the tent of the wicked”.

Mother Allsbrooks leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted husband, John Allsbrooks; devoted son, Nathan (Brenda); loving granddaughter, Destiny; and sisters, Brite and Doris of North Carolina. Siblings who predeceased her in death: Alice, Greg, Ned Jr., Minnie Lee, Bernice, Geneva, Connie, Arlie May, Willie, Eva, James Hubert, Ned II (deceased at birth); and a host of nieces, nephews and her Church family.
