Obituary for Bertha Montoya Bertha Montoya, age 60, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Saturday, May 26, 2018, at her home in Ulysses. She was born May 12, 1958, in Kress, Texas, the daughter of Guadalupe and Belen (Serna) Barrera. Bertha grew up in Texas.

She married Pablo Montoya on June 20, 1984, they later moved to Kansas. Bertha was the matriarch of the family. She was very devoted to her grandkids, sibling, nephews, and extended family.

She treasured the time she spent with them. She is survived by her son, Joseph and wife Miranda of Lakin, Kansas; grandchildren, Isaiah, Aja, Avory, and Nicolas Barrera; brothers, Billy Barrera of Boise City, Oklahoma, Roger Barrera of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Terry Barrera of Liberal, Kansas; sisters, Latricia Aleman of Hugoton, Kansas, and Tonya Earl of Hooker, Oklahoma; aunts, Susan Oritz of Ulysses, Kansas, and Marjorie Vidalier of Lafayette, Louisiana; Pablo Montoya of South Dakota, and extended family. Bertha is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, brothers, and nephews.

Graveside service will be Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart, Kansas. Visitation is Saturday, June 2, 2018, from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to Bertha Montoya Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
