Bette J. Haferkamp February 3, 1932 – May 21, 2019 Bette J. Haferkamp, 87, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 1:15 pm in her home. A celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 pm, Friday, May 31, 2019 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana with Chaplain Pat Ciupek of Dunes Hospice officiating. Private family burial will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, Michigan.

Friends and family will be received Friday from 2:00 pm till the time of service at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel. She was born February 3, 1932 in Royal Oak, Michigan to the late Eugene and Geraldine (Cooper) Pierce. On May 25, 1967 in LaPorte, Indiana she married Norman “Hawk” Haferkamp who preceded her in death on April 14, 2000.

Surviving are three daughters, Gwen Anderson of Texas, Dea (Michael) McNew of Bradenton, Florida and Tonia (Bruce) Watson of Michigan City; two sons, Heath (Lisa) Haferkamp of LaPorte, Indiana and Chip Haferkamp of Michigan City, Indiana; four grandchildren, James Goodloe, April Johnson, Jennifer Anderson and Anthony Anderson; along with 6 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Pierce of Hudson, Florida and Eugene “Skip” Pierce of Summerlin, NV. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Pickard and brother, Charles Pierce. Bette had previously served as a lunch room aid at Mullen School now known as Lake Hills Elementary School.

Memorial contributions in her memory may be given to her son Chip or to the Donor’s Choice.
