Betty Ann Jenkins February 10, 1925 – January 10, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Betty Ann Jenkins, one month shy of her 94th birthday, of Charlottesville passed away on January 10, 2019. Her family will miss her dearly and remember her as a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a guiding light to them and to those she knew and loved.

She was born on February 10, 1925, in Saint Petersburg, Florida, the daughter of the late Louie E. Meyer and Beatrice A. Saunders Meyer. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Paul J. “Joe” Jenkins; son, Edward J. Jenkins; grandson, Andrew Baber; and brothers, Louie and Harold Meyer. After high school, she received a degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Pennsylvania.

She practiced as a Dental Hygienist in Florida before marrying Joe Jenkins in 1945 and moving to Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Columbia, South Carolina; and Richmond, Virginia. They finally settled in Charlottesville in 1952 to raise their six children. Betty can be remembered as a dedicated member of University Baptist Church and an avid UVA supporter in her beloved home of Charlottesville.

In her later years, she especially enjoyed the UBC led Bible Study held at her RoseWood Village residence. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Fumiyo Jenkins, of Springfield, Virginia; daughters, Colleen J. Baber, of Charlottesville and Kathy J. Pye of Richmond, Virginia; son, Stephen P. Jenkins and his wife, Annmarie, of Centreville, Virginia; son, Thomas A. Jenkins and his girlfriend, Sandra Hancock, of Lynchburg, Virginia; and son, Richard W. Jenkins and his wife, Jeanne, of Charlotte, North Carolina. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 on January 19th at the University Baptist Church with the Reverend Will Brown officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
