Betty Jane Davidson Johnston, 92, of Westridge Rd. , Carlsbad, New Mexico, entered the Heavenly Church Victorious, Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Landsun Homes. Memorial services are scheduled for Tuesday, January 29, 2019, 1:00 pm at First United Methodist Church with Rev.

Don Gunderson officiating. Private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico at a later date. Denton Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Jane Davidson Johnston was born May 9, 1926, in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Frank and Roxie Mae (Reid) Davidson. She graduated from Las Cruces High School. Betty married Stanley Warren Johnston, Sr. April 18, 1943, as he was leaving to serve during WWII.

Upon Stanley’s return, they lived on a ranch in Clayton, New Mexico and soon returned to Las Cruces where they resided until moving to Carlsbad in August of 1952. Betty worked for New Mexico State University – Carlsbad as an Administrative Secretary, retiring as Registrar after 29 years of service. She volunteered many hours to her church and to the community throughout her life.

Betty served as Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls for 15 years, Worthy Matron for the Order of Eastern Star for 2 terms and also served as Grand Esther for New Mexico Grand Chapter. She was a member and officer of the Hospital Auxiliary for 15 years credited with over 900 hours and a Hospice Caregiver for 5 years. In addition, Betty served as board member, teacher, and secretary for the First United Methodist Church and served on the board of the NM National Guard Ladies Auxiliary.

Family and Friends were an important part of Betty’s life and we will all dearly miss her continual teasing, sharp wit, and wonderful sense of humor. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley W. Johnston, Sr.; son, Jere David Johnston and 3 sisters. Survivors are her children: Joyce Ann Roberts and husband Franklin of Mansfield, Texas, Stanley W. Johnston, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Corrales, New Mexico, Larry Frank Johnston and wife Charlene of Ora Valley, Arizona, Mary Ellen Mullikin and husband Jerry of Pendleton, South Carolina, and daughter-in-law Susan Johnston of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and long-time friends.
