Jessie’s Obituary Jessie Lou Mitchell, 89, formerly of Winfield, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday evening, January 23, 2019 at Regent Park in Wichita, Kansas. Born May 13, 1929 in Cisco, Texas, she was the daughter of Jesse James and Mary Lou (Hall) Litchfield. She was raised and received her education in Cisco, Texas, before moving with her family to Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1945.

She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1946. Jessie was united in marriage to William “Billy Don” Mitchell in Pecos, Texas on September 18, 1946. The couple made their home in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

In 1951, the couple moved to Sparks, Nevada where Billy Don was stationed with the United States Air Force. In 1954, the family returned to Carlsbad and Jessie began working as a Teller at First National Bank. She took time off work to be a homemaker while the children were young and later returned to work as a Teller at Valley Federal Savings and Loan.

She remained at Valley Federal for many years, retiring as the Head Teller in 1981. Following her retirement, she went to work in sales at Gossett’s Jewelry. In 2003, Jessie and Billy Don moved to Winfield to be near their grandchildren.

Billy Don preceded her in death on December 18, 2016. In June 2018, Jessie moved to Wichita to be near family. She was a member of Praise Cathedral Church of God in Winfield and most recently Mt.

Vernon Church of God in Wichita. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing Kings In The Corner with the girls at Regent Park, and especially loved spending time with her family. Her family includes her son Thomas Lane Mitchell and wife, Angela of Wichita; her brother Herbert Litchfield of Santa Ana, CA; her grandchildren, Kyle Lane Mitchell and Kathy Manavon of Wichita; Wesley Lige Mitchell of Wichita; Jennifer Dawn Evans and husband, Jim of St. Louis, MO; Kesha Lauren Mitchell of Austin, TX; and her great grandchildren, Katie Evans, Ella Evans, William Evans, and Jack Evans all of St. Louis, MO; and Kynlee Wren Mitchell of Wichita.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jessie was preceded in death by a son Gary Don Mitchell, a grandson William Travis Mitchell, two sisters, Loretta Kiper and Marie Russell, and a brother Jimmy Dan Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019 at West Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dean McAlister, retired minister of Fox and Walnut Church of God, officiating.

Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery (old section). Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. on Sunday at West Funeral Home. Memorials have been established in Jessie’s name for Mt.
