Betty Eyestone, age 88, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, February 17, 2019 at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington. Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2019, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor David Schooley officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 Friday evening.

Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County and the M.L. McCreedy Home. Online condolences may be sent for Betty’s family through the web at www.

jonesfh.com Betty was born December 25, 1930 in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Ada (Cochanour) Gundy. She spent her early years in Missouri and moved to Keota, Iowa, graduating from Keota High School in 1947. Betty was united in marriage to John H. Green at the Little Brown Church on April 18, 1949.

John passed away February 19, 1993. Betty married Dale Eyestone in 1995. Betty worked at Farm Bureau for a number of years.

When her sons were small, she enjoyed filling in for women who needed extended time off from their positions and working at TR Phillips Drug, Montgomery Ward, Tom Duncan’s, Nichol and Harmon, Golden Crest Food and Culligan. She then worked with Rock Island Transit for 15 years and ended her career at Wilson Construction. She is remembered as a great mother and grandmother who had an open door policy for multiple generations with patience, kindness and great food.

Betty is survived by her son, Russ Green and wife Katy of Lexington, KY; daughter-in-law, Pam Green of Washington, IA; grandchildren: Nathan Green and wife Karen of Williamsburg, VA; Noah Green and wife Ling of Williamsburg, VA; Libby Messer and husband Will of Lexington, KY; Tammera Lowe and wife Jeri of Davenport, IA; Tim Lowe of Washington, IA; and John Green and wife Amy of Brighton, IA; great-grandchildren: Ben, Kaylee and Liam Green; Mac, Robertson and Eli Messer; and Adrian and Jack Green; and one sister, Pat Michell of Sedalia, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, John Green in 1993 and Dale Eyestone in 2000; and son, Ron Green in 2006.
