Max M. Long, age 76, of Brighton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospital due to kidney disease. Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the Marion Avenue Baptist Church in Washington, Iowa with Pastor Joseph Brown and Pastor Larry Brown officiating. Visitation will begin noon Monday, March 25, 2019 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

Max was born May 28, 1942 at home in Webster County, Iowa, the son of Virgil and Maude (Eakins) Long. He graduated from high school in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and attended Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Max served honorably in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Janice Brown on October 14, 1969 in Wellman, Iowa. Max worked for the University of Iowa for 26 years until his retirement.

He was a member of Marion Avenue Baptist Church where he was a greeter for the last five years. Max worked his entire church life in different childrens and bus ministries. He enjoyed reading and genealogy.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Long of Brighton, IA; daughter, Beth Ann Long of Washington, IA; son, Tony Long of Washington, IA; father-in-law, William Brown of Wellman, IA; and sister-in-law, Joan Long of North English, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Lee and Jerry Long; and mother-in-law, Evelyn Brown.
