Betty Jane Perkey, age 87 of South Bend, IN, passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Hospice House in South Bend, IN surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born on June 4, 1931 in South Bend to Paul Wayne and Marjorie Grace Freshour, Sr. On December 3, 1948 in South Bend, IN, she married Robert Louis Perkey, Sr. Betty attended St. Mary’s High School in South Bend. She was a loving mom, grandmother, great- grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

She was a lifetime member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church. She loved cleaning from the time she was a toddler and kept a beautiful home. She loved going to the casino on Thursdays with her daughter, hitting all of the good garage sales, and loved working in her garden.

She never missed a game, play, or event in her family. Betty is survived by her children, Susan Jane Perkey-Inman of Mishawaka, IN, and Robert Louis (Cindy) Perkey, Jr. of Broken Arrow, OK, her grandchildren, Amy (Tony) Sheets of Niles, MI, David Inman of Las Vegas, NV, Jamie (Jose) Granados of Washington, NC, Jeremy Perkey of Elkhart, IN, and Matthew (Tamara) Perkey of Goshen, IN, great-grandchildren, Cory Metcalfe, Gabrielle Sheets, Taylor Sheets, Adonnika West, Acacia West, Alyjah West, Cielo Granados, and Uzziah Granados and great-great-grandchildren, Dylan Perkey, Caleb Perkey, Bailey Perkey, Madison Perkey, Camden Perkey and Kaidyn Witcher. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara Freshour of South Bend, IN, and her brother-in-law Logan Bentzler of Kokomo, IN, many nieces and nephews, and most importantly, her beloved shih tzu, Maggie.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Sandra Kay Perkey, her siblings, Shirley Bentzler, Nancy Freshour, Paul Wayne Freshour, Jr., and her twin great-granddaughters, Alexa Sue and Victoria Grace Sheets. Friends may visit with family from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 115 South Frances Street, South Bend, IN 46617 Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm at the church with Pastor Jamie Miller officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Gardens in Granger, IN Memorial donations may be sent to the South Bend Animal Care and Control, 521 Eclipse Pl, South Bend, IN 46628 or Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct, South Bend, IN 46637.
