Obituary for Betty Jean Norris Betty Jean Norris, 70, of Ayden, passed away. She entered glory peacefully 4:00pm Friday, March 9, 2018 @ the hospice house into the loving arms of her heavenly father where she gave up her battle to brain cancer. “Miss Betty”, as she was lovingly known, was born on February 24, 1948 in Pitt Co., NC to James and Virginia Harris Norris.
Miss Betty was the epitome of Proverbs 31 Virtuous woman that planted in me all my life to do good and not evil no matter the trials or tribulations we were facing. She was known to live by the Golden Rule, work hard, be honest, trustworthy, love others, and to give our last penny to others in need. My mama left me with lots of fruits from her amazing vineyard she planted.
I admired her tender sweet voice of wisdom. She touched many far and wide with her gentle spirit. Through my journey as her caregiver/daughter these past 4 months and saw amazing strength, faith, hope and love.
She left this earth in her unfailing faith. What a time she is having in heaven with her new legs to walk again and a new brain and body. She was a faithful member of Freedom Baptist Church where she loved to serve and volunteer.
She loved all her church family dearly. Miss Betty was a faithful woman to her family, church and friends. She enjoyed all fellowship and memories with friends and family, especially making memories with her two precious grandchildren.
She was a native of Pitt County all her life and retired as A/P- P/R Administrator after 25 years of service with Pitt Electric Company. She loves to bowl, ride her motorcycle, road trips and rocking in her chair on the porch. Mamie didn’t care where I booked our trips, she had her bags packed ready to travel.
That’s how we rolled, not planned, but wonderful cherished memories. My Mamie will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Her survivors include her loving daughter, Virginia J. Matthews and husband, Curtis Matthews Jr., of Farmville; two special grandchildren, Christopher Warren and Hannah Matthews; a brother, Russell Norris and two uncles, Talmadge Harris and wife, Viola and Robert Harris and wife, Jean.
