Straub, Betty L. Saginaw, Michigan Passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018, at Covenant – Harrison, following a lengthy illness. Age 72 years. Betty L. McDonald was born June 20, 1946, in Traverse City, Michigan.

She graduated from Traverse City Senior High School with the Class of 1964 and later attended Northwestern Michigan College School of Practical Nursing, become a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1966. She married Andrew Straub on January 25, 1969; he survives her. Betty and Andrew had two children: their daughter, Melissa, and their son, Joshua.

Betty’s nursing career included employment with Dr. Hugh Sulfridge, from 1966 – 1985; Dr. Jack Martin, from 1966 – 1969; Dr. Kenneth Distler, from 1985 – 1995; and Dr. Gerard Thomas, from 1995 until her retirement in 2008. Betty enjoyed coaching cheerleading for Nouvel Catholic Central High School for two years, from 1997 – 1999. She had been a member of Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Parish, St. Helen Church.

Surviving are her husband, Andrew Straub; their daughter, Melissa (Jonathan) Dixon, and by one grandson, Zachary Dixon, all of Texas; her siblings: William (Diane) McDonald, Delton, MI; Charles (Theresa) McDonald, Traverse City, MI; Barbara (Karl) Anderson, Traverse City, MI; also, a sister-in-law, Kathleen McDonald, Gaylord, MI; 10 nieces and nephews; 21 great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Georgetta Box McDonald Ducheney; her father, Carl C. McDonald; infant son, Joshua Mitchell Straub, who was born May 4, 1981, and who predeceased her on July 16, 1981; a brother, Robert McDonald; and by one niece. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, St. Helen Church, 2445 N. Charles Street.

Rev. Fr. Ronald Wagner will officiate.

Private committal services will take place later. Friends may visit with the family at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, and then at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Unbound (formerly the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging), Hidden Harvest, Christ the Good Shepherd Parish St. Helen Church, or Brian’s House, Bay City.
