Obituary for Betty Ray Swan Betty Ray Swan, 75, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2018, at her home in Louisville, Ky. , with her loving husband, Maurice Franklin Swan, by her side. Betty Ray was born the daughter of the late Raymond and Nellie Lacy in Columbia, Ky.

, in November of 1942. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Home Economics and received her Master’s from the University of Tennessee in Extension Education. Her career with the UK Extension Service took her to the Jefferson County Extension Office, where she was introduced to the love of her life, Maurice.

The couple were married in Middletown on August 13, 1984, and they spent 34 years sharing an unconditional love for one another. A creative since childhood, Betty Ray was an accomplished artist, and she often remarked that she never grew up. She captured the nostalgic scenes and places of Kentucky by brush with oils on canvas, created Belsnickels from items gathered around the farm, and learned to play the dulcimer and share its rich history.

An inspiration to her family and all who met her, she had a passion for art, antiques and culture and for the importance of preserving history for future generations. She cared deeply for her family and friends, and as she leaves this world, we are reminded to carry on Betty Ray’s adventurous spirit and her drive to always live life to the fullest. She is survived by her husband, Maurice Franklin Swan; her sister, Victoria Lacy; nephew and niece Justin and Lane Fowler; and nephew and niece David and Betsy Kiefer.
