Billy’s Obituary Billy Thornton, 72 of Jesup died Monday, March 11, 2019 in Harborview Nursing Home and under the care of Southern Care Hospice. The Appling County native had lived in Wayne County all of his life and was a founding member of Liberty Lighthouse Church. Billy was a retired pipefitter and welder with Local 177, Brunswick Union, an inspector and instructor with General Electric Company.

He was also a member of the 368 Masonic Lodge and loved to work on tractors, fishing and traveling. He was predeceased by parents, Julian and Lillian Thornton; 3 brothers Carroll, Farris and DeWayne Thornton. Survivors are his wife of 41 years, Joan Grayson Thornton of Jesup; a daughter, Lisa (James) Hughes of Jesup; a son, Dr. Derrick (Sarah) Thornton of Moultrie; 3 grandchildren, Taylor and Julia Thornton, Aaron Little; a sister, Jackie (Bobby) Wiliford of Jesup; two brothers, Glenn (Roberta) Thornton of Griffin, Ralph (Diane) Thornton of Hoboken; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 AM, Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Saylor, Rev. Jack Lee and Rev.

John Crosby officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with Masonic rites. Active pallbearers will be James Miller, Kevin Miller, Wayne Aldridge, Farris Thornton, Don Corrado, and Chris Griffis.

Honorary pallbearers will be nurses, staff and CNA’s of Harborview Nursing Home, Bobbie and Jackie Wiliford, Harold and Gennie Aldridge, DeWayne and Marilyn Rodgers, John and Phyllis Ward and Robert and Shirley Sheffield. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup, Ga.

is in charge of arrangements.
