Obituary for Bruce H. Abbey Haverhill – Bruce Harlan Abbey, 69, of Haverhill, formerly of Newburyport, passed peacefully surrounded by his love ones on the early morning of July 11, 2018. He was born in the Bronx and spent his childhood in Westchester County. He attended and graduated from New York School of visual arts with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.

After school he moved to Vermont where he constructed his own farmhouse and became the first Orvis salesman in the state. He went on to attend French cooking school on Beacon Hill and while enrolled meet his future wife Pam, the love of his life. He purchased his first restaurant, The Starving Chief in Exeter, NH, and later opening Ibis, his second in Pensacola FL.

Bruce and Pam settled in Newburyport, where he would work for Ruby wines for 28 years. During this time Pam would give birth to their son Logan and Bruce would go on to study and master the art of Japanese Tea ceremony, become a dealer of African art, and in his later years cycle his first 100 mile ride at the age of 67. Bruce loved music, cooking for family and friends, and spending time in Italy.

He survived by his wife, Pamela Kennedy Abbey; son, Logan Morris Abbey; mother, Betty Abbey and brother, Leland Abbey. At Bruce’s request a private memorial service will be held at a later date. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Bruce H. Abbey please visit our Sympathy Store.
