Obituary for Burgess Gene Martin Burgess Gene Martin, age 55, passed away unexpectedly on July 18, 2018. He was born in Columbus on November 27, 1962 to Donald Martin Sr and Margaret (White) Martin. He graduated from Wehrle High School in 1981.

Burgess served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps as a part of the Beirut Multinational Peace Keeping Force in 1983. After his time in the service, he worked for U.S. Postal Service for over 20 years. He was a fantastic cook and an exceptional handyman.

There was nothing he couldn’t fix. He made friends on all his motorcycle travels and never knew a stranger. His tough guy Marine persona hid a heart of gold.

Burgess’s world revolved around his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Sr. Burgess is survived by his mother, Margaret; brother, Donald (Michelle) Jr.; daughters, Donnelle (Josh), Brandy, and Mallory; grandchildren, Joslyn, Jackson, Ryan, Sophia, Bailee, and Adrian; niece, Jessi; nephew, Josh; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many dear friends spread across the world. Friends may call on Monday, July 23 from 5 to 8 PM at the O. R. WOODYARD SOUTH CHAPEL, 1346 South High St, where the funeral will be on Tuesday at 10:30 AM.
