Carl A. Yocum passed away peacefully on May 3, 2018, aged 92, surrounded by family in Cincinnati Ohio. Survived by three children Mike (Irene), Tom (Helen) and Carleen, six grandchildren Adrian, Leo, Penelope, Josh, Luke and Alisa. Preceded in death by parents Walter A. and Bertha Mae Yocum, and wife Evelyn Jean.

Born June 9, 1925, reared up Wills Creek Hollow, his character forged by the Great Depression, he personified the Greatest Generation. Delivered newspapers, trapped for furs, attended Jefferson Union High School, enlisted in Navy at age 17 and served on the torpedo boat destroyer U.S.S. Barker in Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Went to work at Wheeling Steel after WWII.

Married Evelyn Jean Russell who then joined him at Midway Island for his re-enlistment during Korean War. Married for nearly 52 years. In addition to a 35-year career in the steel mill, he also operated a water pump sales and service business.

He was a dedicated trustee of LaBelle View Church of Christ. If it was broken, he could fix it. Ditch digger, house builder, general store owner, solar water heater designer and landlord.

Known for his humor, honesty and hard work, he made it a point to make people smile. We will miss him. Visitation hours for Carl will be held 2-4 P.M. Sunday, May 6th at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH. Additional visitation will be held from 10 -11 A.M. Monday, May 7th at the funeral home followed by a celebration of Carl’s life at 11 A.M. with Thomas Arehart of the LaBelle View Church of Christ, Steubenville officiating. Carl’s interment will follow at the Ft.

Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville. Military Honors will be given by the Toronto American Legion Chaplain at the funeral home Monday.
