Helene Marie Cich Karavish, age 85 of Rocky Mount, VA and formerly of Ohio passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018. Although our hearts are heavy with grief and sadness, our souls rejoice knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior. Helene was born September 14, 1933 in Empire, Ohio the daughter of the late Morris B. Cich and Mary Katherine Somogie Cich and also preceded in death by a sister, Rosalene A. Vandruff.

She loved God, loved her family and loved her friends. Helene loved to bake and cook. She was lovingly known as the “cake lady “and enjoyed baking for her family and friends, most especially over the holidays.

She loved to watch food tutorials and cooking channels. She is survived by her husband Wesley Karavish of 56 years; daughters, Mary Katherine Czernowski (Peter), Herndon, VA Christina Defibaugh (Christopher), Rocky Mount; grandson, Alex Czernowski, Herndon, VA; brother, Richard Cich (Kay), Toronto, Ohio; sister, Patricia A. Ault (James), Wintersville, OH. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Requiem Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Byzantine Catholic Church , 814 N. Fifth St. , Toronto, OH with the Reverend Father John Kapitan, Jr. OFM officiating. Interment will follow in the Toronto Union Cemetery. A Parastas service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday November 2, 2018 with visitation from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 at the Clarke Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lexington, Virginia at a later date. The family is being served by Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main Street, Toronto, OH 43964 in Ohio and by Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 62 VA Market Place Drive, Rocky Mount, VA 24151 locally.
