Carl Nolan Baker August 11, 1937 – January 15, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Carl Nolan Baker, 81, of Banner passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. Born on August 11, 1937 in Banner to Sam Baker and Jimmie Bagwell Baker, he was 81. After graduating Bruce High with the class of 1957, Carl went to work in Memphis for the Dixie Wax Paper Company.

Eventually, he returned home and started working for the Columbia Gulf Transmission Company before embarking on what would be a 28-year career with The Weyerhaeuser Company, retiring in 2003. A former Deacon of Banner Baptist Church, he remained an active member. Carl’s hobbies included hunting, where he took special enjoyment in listening to the dogs chasing deer.

Additionally, as an avid sports fan, Carl enjoyed following sports on the ESPN Sports Network. Carl will be remembered and missed many family members and friends alike, all of whom cherish the memories he created and shared with them. Carl leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Nell Vines Baker of Banner; Sons, Danny Nolan (Shelby) Baker of Oxford, Randy Lyn (Kathy) Baker of Banner, Murry Allen (Loretta) Baker of Starkville, and Carlton Scott (Laura) Baker of Pittsboro; Sisters, Dorethy Baker of Bruce, Ruby Thompson of Bruce, and Melba Busby of Oxford, Grandchildren, Joshua Baker, Meagan (John Cole) Jennings, Christopher (Beverly) Baker, Rebekah (Dustin) Carr, Benjamin Baker, Amanda (Ben) Harris, Heath (Clarissa) Crenshaw, Caleb (Hannah) Baker, Ferrell Baker, and Mary Katelyn Baker; 10 Great-Grandchildren; and a host of Nieces and Nephews.

There will be a visitation with the family on Thursday Evening, January 17, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. A funeral service honoring Carl’s life will be held on Friday Morning, January 18, 2019 starting at 11:00 am in the chapel of the funeral home. Dr. Bobby Douglas, Brother Jackie Douglas, and Brother Darrell Logan will serve as officiants of funeral services.

Following the funeral service on Friday, Carl will be laid to rest in Banner Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Benjamin Baker, Caleb Baker, Christopher Baker, Ferrell Baker, Dustin Carr, and Heath Crenshaw, Ben Harris. Carl was preceded in death by his Parents and Sister, Shirley Jean Dailey.

Memorials and honorariums may be made in Carl’s honor to Banner Baptist Church in c/o Benny Thompson, 538 CR 235, Bruce, MS, 38915; or to Gideon International, Calhoun County Camp, P.O. Box 167, Calhoun City, MS 38916. Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce is honored to be entrusted by the Baker family with helping to make arrangements honoring Carl’s life.
