Carol, the son of William and Leta (Harris) Salyers, was born on September 9, 1931 in Turner, Iowa. He grew up in Grinnell.

Carol attended Grinnell Schools and then began his service to his country in the U.S. Air Force in 1952. While in the service he was stationed in Africa before returning home to Grinnell for a short time. While he was home he met Anna Belle “Ann” Massengale.

Carol then was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base in California and after a short time Ann joined him and they were united in marriage on September 23, 1955 in Kingman, Arizona. After his discharge in 1956, they returned home to Grinnell where they lived until 1965 when they moved to Newton. Carol worked at the Maytag Company for 26 years, retiring in 1981.

After retirement Carol and Ann enjoyed wintering in Texas for many years. Carol was a member of the First Baptist Church, the UAW Local 997, and the Izaak Walton League. He was an accomplished mechanic and was the proud owner of a 1928 Model A. Carol enjoyed fixing and tinkering with things and never needed to call a repairman as he was able to fix anything that needed fixed.

Carol was also very particular about his yard and garden. He was a devoted and loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa. Carol is survived by his wife, Ann Salyers of Newton; children, Carol Salyers, Jr. of Newton, Diane (Doyle) Siglin of Ankeny, Sue McCuen of Altoona, and Mike (Cheryl) Salyers of Newton; grandchildren, Lindsay (Aron) Barwick, Mindy (Ryan) Clift, Hillary McCuen, George McCuen, and Max Salyers; and his great-grandchildren, Nolan, Dillyn, Reid, Penelope, and Maya.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Darrell and William Salyers.
