Carolyn’s Obituary Carolyn E. (Mort) Longnecker, age 66 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, died Friday, February 15, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after being life-lined from Elwood following a very sudden illness. She was born March 14, 1952 in Elwood, the daughter of Frederick R. Mort, Sr. and Marcheta C. (Dennis) Mort. She was a 1970 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School.
Carolyn worked at several St. Vincent Hospital locations for over 30 years in the accounts payable administration department before her retirement last year in February 2018. She married the love of her life, Dennis F. Longnecker on July 31, 1971, and they were blessed with 47 years together. Earlier in her life, she attended the First Baptist Church in Elwood.
Carolyn loved to play Bingo, cards, and bowling; and she had bowled for many years on leagues at Wells Lanes in Elwood. She and Dennis formerly enjoyed visiting Hill Lake with their family and camping for many years. Carolyn also enjoyed reading, cheering on the Indianapolis Colts, listening to music, crocheting, and cross-stich.
More than anything, Carolyn’s family was the center of her life, and she enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and family. She will greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Carolyn’s family legacy includes her husband, Dennis F. Longnecker of Elwood; daughter, Kellie (husband Jason) Ballman of Elwood; son, Casey Longnecker (fiance Ellen Atwood) both of Elwood; brother, Frederick R. Mort, Jr. of Elwood; sister, Rhonda Jo (husband Mark) Sullivan of Elwood; 4 grandchildren, Bryce (wife Onika) Longnecker, Kourtnie Ballman, Andrew Ballman, Keagan Longnecker, and Alyvia Atwood; 3 great-grandchildren, Jayden, Lyam, Hallie, plus another expected in 2019 who will be named Waylon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Additional family member include Dennis’ siblings, Robert (Jeanie) Longnecker, Nancy Heady, Vicki (Tim) Havens, Lois (Mike) Tateman, Karen (Tim) Grondin, Bev (Don) Groover, Lisa (Bill) Murray, and Judy (Daryl) Prince. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Pamela Mort. Cremation services for Carolyn will be private, and burial of her remains will take place privately in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood at a later date.
There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist and offset funeral expenses for the family. Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood has been entrusted with Carolyn’s arrangements.
