Obituary for Charles Savoie Charles E. Savoie, 92, of Sterling Heights, formerly Sault Ste Marie and Cheboygan, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018 at the John Dingell Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Detroit. Chuck was born March 1, 1925 in Fibre, Michigan, the son of Rene and Cecile (Gagnon) Savoie. He grew up in Sault Ste.

Marie, Michigan and later served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the European Theater, for which he received a Purple Heart medal for wounds received during action in the Battle of the Bulge. On May 17, 1947 in Sault Ste. Marie, he married Catherine “Kay” Gerrish, who preceded him in death.

He later married Dorothy Riese in 1984. Chuck was a hard worker and general contractor who owned his own business, “Savoie Roofing and Siding” who also enjoyed his leisure time. He loved snowmobiling and boating, and was a member of the VFW, and the American Legion, and was past commander of the American Legion Post in Sault Ste.

Marie, Michigan. He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Ed) Stafford of Grand Ledge, and Jean (Dan) Cadotte of Brimley, a son, Ken (Linda) Savoie of Roseville, daughter in law, Cathy Savoie of Bay City, 12 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Brian, Michael, Marcy, Wendy, Angela, Katie, Greg, Kristine, Steve, Curt, and Eric, and 17 great grandchildren, his siblings, Lauretta Owens, Agnes Trudgeon, Alberta Poland, Harvey Savoie, Rene Savoie, and Evelyn Mitchell. In addition to his wife, Kay, he was preceded in death by his parents, his 2nd wife Dorothy, a son, Don, a sister, Estelle McKay, and three brothers, Maurice, Bill, and Paul Savoie.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11:00am, at the St. Ronald Church in Clinton Township with burial to take place at Rudyard Cemetery at a later date.
