Charles “Charlie” William Ward passed away peacefully after a brief illness Sunday, June 24, 2018. The son of Adelma and Emery Ralph Ward, he was born in Sandusky Feb. 4, 1924.

Charles enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1942, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific, Victory, Good Conduct, American Area and European-African-Middle Eastern Area medals. After serving in World War II, he was the owner and operator of Ward’s Auto Wrecking on Route 101.

In his later years he was employed by Ward’s Auto Sales, owned by his brother Rich. His passion in life was being an avid trap shooter. He was a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association since 1956.

During his shooting career he shot over 100,000 registered targets and won numerous events in several states. He also enjoyed restoring vintage cars, flea markets and swap meets and spending time with his family. Charles is survived by his daughter, Karen (Ward Lippert) Walborn; son-in-law, Ronald Lippert; three grandchildren, Tamila (Charles) Darling, Tandyn (Heather) Lippert, Tiffany (Ethan) Worthington; five great-grandchildren, Xander and Makayla Lippert, Audrey and Ariel Worthington, Sean (Jamie) Darling; sister, Lois Ward Kriss; several nieces and nephews; and his canine companion Tucker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Emery Frank, Robert and Richard; sister, Adelma “Sis” Reuter; nephews Jerry, Jon and Bobby; and son-in-law; Richard Walborn. There will be a private family memorial celebrating his life and military service during the 4th of July holiday week.
