Obituary for Chester “Chet” Engebretson Chet Engebretson passed away in his home on December 11, 2018. He was born May 4, 1940 in South Beloit, IL, the son of Lyman and Mary Hayes Engebretson. He graduated from South Beloit High School in 1958 where he played football and basketball.

After high school he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He then attended Northern Illinois University. Chet worked at Chrysler in Belvidere from 1965 until his retirement in 1995.

He was an avid sports fan and attended all University of Wisconsin home football games and bowl games. He was a very generous and modest man who spent many hours volunteering for organizations such as South Beloit Soup Kitchen, South Beloit Historical Society, and St. Peters Catholic Church. Chet was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a former Grand Knight.

He was known for having the most well maintained lawn on the block. Survivors include his brother, Edmund Engebretson; sister-in-law, Alice Engebretson; nieces, Mary (Dave Dempsey) Engebretson, Marcy (Chad) Good and Becky Thompson; nephews, Mike (Brenda) Engebretson, Steve (Barb) Engebretson, Peter (Amy) Engebretson and Eric (Sue) Engebretson; 14 great nieces and nephews; and many good friends. He was predeceased by his parents, brother James Engebretson and sister-in-law Bonnie Engebretson.

We will all miss him. According to Chet’s wishes, there will be no services. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family.
