Obituary for Mr. Claire Omar Caskey Claire Omar Caskey, 96, husband of Frances Calloway Caskey, of Clemson, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018, at his home surrounded by family, friends, laughter and love. Claire Omar Caskey was born on June 29, 1922 in Lancaster, SC to the late Albert and Annabelle Graham Caskey. He served as an Army Major in the World War II, earned his undergraduate degree at Appalachian State University and completed postgraduate studies at Duke University and the University of the North Carolina.

While studying at Appalachian, Claire met his beloved wife of 70 years, Frances Calloway Caskey. From 1948-1987 Claire taught English at Clemson University. He taught a variety of classes and loved each one.

He especially enjoyed keeping in touch with many of his students after their matriculation. Claire was preceded in death by his son-in-law: Jack Olker. Claire is survived by his wife Frances: two daughters: Cathy Olker of Central, SC and Patricia (Don) Nielsen of Winston- Salem, NC; four grandchildren: Robert Olker of Central, SC, Nick Nielsen (Sarah) of Calypso, NC, Catherine Scheller (John) of McKinney, TX and Beth Olker of Central, SC; and six great-grandchildren: Hannah, Charlotte and Claire Nielsen and Avery, Beckett and Taylor Scheller.

Funeral services will be conducted at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson, SC, on September 7, 2018 at 1:30 PM with visitation to follow. A private graveside service will occur that morning at Old Stone Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Claire O. Caskey Endowed Golf Scholarship at Clemson University, CU Foundation, P.O. Box 1889, Clemson, SC 29633, or to Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, 101 Edgewood Avenue, Clemson, SC 29631.
