Clare Pace Naegle September 17, 1923 ~ May 20, 2018 Clare Pace Naegle, 94, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2018. He was comforted and surrounded by family during his last days. Clare was born September 17, 1923 in Toquerville, Utah to Raymond Naegle and Mildred Pace.

He went to Washington County Schools and graduated from Hurricane High School. He attended machinist training at Utah State University and also attended Weber State College. He married Nina Louise Stacy in 1951 and had three children.

They later divorced. He married Elaine F. Pilgrim in 1986 in Lake Tahoe, NV. They have made their home in Clearfield for 31 years.

Clare was drafted into the Army Air Corp in January 1943. After completing Aircraft Machinist Training, he was sent to England at Leiston Air Force Base. The 469th squadron supported the U.S. bombing campaign in Europe by repairing such aircraft as the B-17 Bomber and the P-51 Fighter.

He was discharged in February, 1946. He was recalled to active service in February, 1951, during the Korean War and was sent to Moulins, France. His unit was the 73rd Vehicle Repair Squadron.

On his return in 1952, he worked civil service at Hill Air Force Base until he retired in 1979. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Clare was survived by his wife, Elaine of Clearfield, UT, his three children; Mike (Terry) Naegle of Ogden, UT, Brad (Karon) Naegle of Ogden, UT, Lorri (Doug) Aldridge of Woods Cross, UT, Three step-children; Gary (Geri) Pilgrim of Syracuse, UT, Susan Mitchell of Clearfield, UT, Linda Pilgrim of Syracuse, UT, sister, Pat Scalise, four grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, baby brother, sister Phyllis Purdy, and two brother-in-laws, David Purdy and James Scalise. A special tribute to April Hill, Clare’s caretaker for the last three years, who has been by his side night and day for his final weeks. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No.

Fairfield Rd. , Layton, Utah. Friends may visit with family Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. The family wishes to thank the staff of Chancellor Gardens and Comfort Worx Hospice for their caring and attention.
