Obituary for Clarence E Elder Clarence E. Elder, 84, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at his home. He was born in Daviess County on August 17, 1933 to the late Henry Elder and Mary Ernestine Turner Elder. Clarence was a member of AA for 44 years, a member of IBEW- Local 1701 for 64 years, Owensboro Antique & Classic Auto Club, and a veteran of the US Army.

He was also an avid UK basketball and football fan and NASCAR. Clarence enjoyed his role as “Papaw Jelly Bean” to his grandchildren and unofficial grandchildren. Along with his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by his sons Nick Elder and Paul McDuffie, his brothers: Walter; John; Joseph; and Edward, his sisters: Henrietta, Pearl and Ernestine, the mother of their children, Linda Conkright Elder.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Carmen McDuffie Elder, his children: Krisalyn Elder; Michele Lewis (Tom); Alicia Warner (Danny); Beth Hayden (David Kaelin); Butch McDuffie (Sherry); Philip McDuffie (Michelle); Vincent McDuffie; and Carolyn McDuffie, his grandchildren: Amelia; Keith (Zach); Bradley (Taylor); Logan (Hannah); Garrett (Jessica); Eric; Abby; Justin, Andrea; Britney, Maddie; Krista; Sondra (Juan); Samantha (Kayla); Sarah (Tyler); Steven; Jacob; and Lydia, special niece/godchild Connie Caldwell, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. and his brother, Richard Elder. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Roshan Matthew and staff for the dedication and care Clarence received throughout the last several years.

Services are 9:30 am Friday, June 8, 2018 at Blessed Mother Catholic Church, with Father Mike Clark officiating. Burial to follow at St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery. Visitation is 3:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory, and Friday 8:00 am to 9:30 am at the church.
