Obituary for Clyde Betterly Clyde Betterly, 86, died Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Mr. Betterly was born February 19, 1932 in Greenpoint, New York to the late Lester and Ethel (Hefy) Betterly. He lived in North Brunswick, NJ for 42 years and was previously from Brooklyn, NY.

Clyde served in the Marines during the Korean Conflict, having attained the rank of Private First Class. He enlisted on February 18, 1952 and was honorably discharged on February 9, 1954. He was a truck driver for Preston 151, where he worked for many years.

He was a long time parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Milltown, NJ. Clyde loved to play pool, was an avid bird watcher and a keen guitar player; above all he truly loved singing. Mr. Betterly was predeceased by his brothers, George and Ronald Betterly; and his sisters, Dorthy and Edith Wieber.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Joan Betterly; his daughter, Carolyn Dziegielewski and her husband John; his brothers, Fred Betterly and his wife Mae and Vincent Betterly and his wife Jill; his sisters, Frances Smith and her husband James, and Leslie Friend and her husband Joseph; his three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may visit at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ 08873 on Monday, July 2nd from 9:00 A.M. to Noon. A service will begin at Noon.

Entombment will follow at Lake Nelson Cemetery in Piscataway, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Mr. Clyde Batterly’s name to an organization of your choosing.
