Obituary for Martha Long Martha Elizabeth Long, 78, of Middle, NJ, went home to glory with the Lord on July 25, 2018. She was born in Kingston, PA, November 15, 1939 to the late Walter Coughlin and Ruth Ralston Coughlin. Martha graduated from G.A.R. Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre, PA, and was licensed as a practical nurse in 1958 in New Jersey.

Martha married the late Frederick Norman Long (September 17, 1960). Martha loved to crochet afghans and blankets for family and friends. She and her husband were active members of the St. Joseph’s mixed bowling league in Green Brook.

She served faithfully at Middle Presbyterian Church for many years and, most recently, as member of the First Baptist Church of New Market, Piscataway, NJ. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, Martha served in area hospitals and homes. For many years, she was Treasurer of the Private Duty Nurses Association, a precursor to today’s Visiting Nurse Association.

Martha is survived by daughters Eunice-Ann Au, of Highland Park, NJ; Jennifer Denise Syracuse, of Long Beach, CA; and Cynthia June Long, of Philadelphia, PA. She is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to First Baptist Church of New Market, Piscataway, NJ 08854.

A viewing will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, August 6, at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ. Martha will be interred next to her late husband Fred, a Navy veteran, at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, at First Baptist Church of New Market, Piscataway, NJ.
