Daniel Edward Donahey was born February 8, 1937 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa to Dan L. and Lottie (Cook) Donahey. He left this world on August 3, 2018 at the age of 81. He grew up on a farm southwest of Panora and graduated from Panora High School in 1954.

Dan earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1958. After college, he moved to Santa Monica, California with some Iowa State buddies who all had jobs in the aerospace/defense industry.
