David’s Obituary David M. Barnes, Ph.D., of Bangor, PA, passed away quietly but unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 27th, at his residence. David was born in Newton, MA on September 9, 1961. He grew up in California, where he loved to learn and explore every aspect of his environment.

Always curious, he returned to school several times, earning a BS, MS, and a Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry from UC Davis, and eventually, an MBA from UW Whitewater. He was employed as a Chief Science Officer at KD Pharma working in Germany and Mount Bethel, PA. An incredibly brilliant man who never lost his curiosity, David was humble, gentle, kind, and patient.

He could explain abstract and complicated ideas in a way that made the listener feel respected and understood. He loved to interact with others and became a phenomenal chef for his family and friends. He will be remembered well for his meals, hospitality, and gentle smile.

Few people ever saw him angry – he chose happiness. He was the best friend, supreme supporter and avid biking buddy of his wife of 26 years, Cassandra Reid (Wilkerson) Barnes. In addition to his parents, Peter and Judith and his wife, David is survived by his daughter Gabriella Barnes, his son Jacob Barnes and his fiancé Mary Savarese, two sisters, Laura Barnes and Jessica Green-Barnes, brother Ken Barnes, and 8 exchange students that he loved like family.

He was preceded in death by his sister Debbie. Memorial services will be held in Mt. Bethel, Pennsylvania 03/19/2019; Madison, Wisconsin 05/11/2019; and in the San Francisco Bay Area 08/11/2019.

Online condolences may be offered at gaffneyparsons.com. In lieu of flowers, David’s family asks that you hug your loved ones, cook for someone you love, drive carefully around cyclists, and work hard to be patient and supportive of everyone around you.
