Obituary for David Joseph “Joe” Moehring RICHMOND, Ind. – David Joseph “Joe” Moehring, age 68, of Richmond, Indiana, died at home surrounded by his family Friday, July 6, 2018, from a tough fight with pancreatic cancer. Born November 11, 1949, in Webster City, Iowa, to Edward and Helen Moehring, Joe quickly started a life filled with adversity and triumph.

Having contracted polio at age two, his early trials helped develop Joe’s strong will and determined spirit. An Eagle Scout, a 1968 graduate of Middletown High School in Middletown, Ohio, and a 1971 graduate of Miami University, he began his 30+ years teaching career, mostly spent in the Richmond Community Schools system. During this time, Joe also began his impactful work as an athletic coach, including track, basketball, wrestling, cross country, and boys and girls golf.

He coached teams to numerous state championships and won Indiana High School Golf Coach of the Year multiple times. While these accolades are wonderful, they are simply a reflection of a man who loved helping student athletes set and achieve goals higher than they thought were possible. This truly made him unique.

Joe never knew a limit of possibilities and wanted to bring others along with him. He looked at nature in the same way. Joe took great joy in making his property beautiful and watching plants and flowers flourish.

He also started and ran his own business, Joe’s Gutter Service, for 40 years. Above all, he was a faithful and loyal son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Survivors include his daughter, Lori (Lance) Fowler of Richmond; son, David (Lauren) Moehring of Silver Spring, Maryland; brother, Steve (Martha) Moehring of Coos Bay, Oregon; sister, Jackie Kitchen of York, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Ada and Owen Fowler and Molly and Carolin Moehring; and faithful friend, Barbara Gohn.

He was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife of 40 years, Debra Lynn Carroll Moehring and parents.
