Obituary for Phyllis Jean Schmitt BUFORD, Ga. – It is with great sadness that the family of Phyllis Jean Schmitt, age 76, formerly of Richmond, Indiana, announces her passing Friday, September 21, 2018, at Benton House of Sugar Hill, Georgia, with her two daughters by her side. Born October 15, 1941, in Richmond, Indiana, to Carl Edward Sr. and Leoma Humphrey Lipscomb, Phyllis attended Boston High School in Boston, Indiana.

She worked at NATCO for a short time, but her favorite job was staying at home with her four children, who kept her busy. Phyllis served as a Girl Scout and Brownies leader and was a member of the Elkhorn Club. She lived in Richmond until she remarried on April 17, 1976, and moved to Rhode Island for two years; followed by a move to New Jersey for two years, before relocating to Georgia in 1980 for her remaining years.

Phyllis enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends. She had an outgoing personality and liked to help others. Phyllis was an amazing Mom, Nana, and Great-Nana, who will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Lynn (John Gary) Christopher of Cumming, Georgia, and Michelle Reneé (Mark) Padgette of Dacula, Georgia; sons, Raymond Scott (Patty) Shendler of Schenectady, New York, and Mark Duane Shendler of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth (Jordan) Fripp, Justin Ian Shendler Christopher, Alec Shendler and Erika Elizabeth Padgette, Ryan Scott and Kyle Mark Shendler, and Chelsea Lynne Izzo; great-grandchildren, Hudson John and Cali Jean Fripp; sister-in-law, Ann Lipscomb; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Ronald W. Schmitt, who died January 4, 2017; parents; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Ann (Floyd) Ruhl; and brothers, Ronald Lee Lipscomb and Carl Edward Lipscomb Jr. Funeral service for Phyllis Jean Schmitt will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2018, at the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum with Pastor Roby Wood officiating. Entombment will be in the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum.
