Obituary for David DeBernardis David L. DeBernardis April 10, 1966- June 25, 2018 David L. DeBernardis, 52, of Altoona passed away Monday morning surrounded by family after a four year courageous battle with brain cancer. Born on April 10, 1966 in Fort Dix, NJ, David was the son of Leonard DeBernardis and Margaret Ferraro Charlton. In addition he was the son of his step father, Robert E. Charlton and step mother Evonne L DeBernardis.

David graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1984. Following graduation David joined the United States Marine Corps where he served his country for 6 years. After his time in the service ended, David continued to risk his life to serve his friends, family and his community as a firefighter with the Altoona Fire Department.

For 20 years being a firefighter was his passion and calling in life, bringing him joy and happiness helping those in need. He also loved his family, going on vacations to the beach, Harley Davidson’s and Disneyworld. He is survived by his loving wife Kelly DeBernardis; a daughter Carley DeBernardis; a son Austin DeBernardis; two step sons Trevor and Turner Bush; his father Leonard DeBernardis and step mother Evonne L; his mother Margaret Charlton and his step father Robert E; a brother Mark L DeBernardis; a sister Diana E DeBernardis; paternal grandmother Anna M. DeBernardis; a nephew Dallas G DeBernardis; granddaughter Sawyer Rose DeBernardis (Expected July 5th) , as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Preceding him in death are his paternal grandfather RJ Leonard DeBernardis; maternal grandparents Henry and Anna Ferraro and his cousin Lynn Weamer Bupp. A time of viewing will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at The Good Funeral Home Inc, Alto Reste Park, from 5-8PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday June 29, 2018 at 11AM at the funeral home.

Full military honors will be held by the Blair County Honor Guard as well as honors from the Altoona Fire Department. The burial will take place at Alto Reste Park, Altoona, PA.
