Dennis’ Obituary Dennis Powers Norfleet, M.D., passed away March 26, 2019. He was born on December 5, 1943, the son of Dr. Charles H. Norfleet and Lillian Quandt Norfleet. Dr. Norfleet attended the Rochester school system, and was graduate of Cornell University in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Three months later he married Doren Tanner Poland whom he had met his first day at Cornell. Together they moved to Albany where he graduated from Albany Medical School of Union University in 1969. Upon completion of medical school Dr. Norfleet served as the Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at the Albany Medical Center Hospital and was board certified in Internal Medicine.

In 1973 Dr. Norfleet and his wife Doren moved to Oswego where he established his private practice in Internal Medicine. During his medical career he also served as the Medical Director for Oswego County Opportunities, Medical Consultant to Oswego County, Medical Director of Hospice and Director of the Oswego County Health Department. He also was a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Upstate Medical University for many years.

Dr. Norfleet served as both a member and President of the Oswego City School Board from 1975 to 1981. He participated as a Boy Scout Leader with former Troop 819 in Minetto. He was an active member of the Church of the Resurrection, having served as a Warden and Vestry member.

Most recently, Dr. Norfleet was a member of the Board of the Integrated Community Planning of Oswego and a member of the Board of Directors of St. Luke Health Services. Dr. Norfleet was active in the community, serving on the Governor’s Medicaid Advisory Committee for several years, serving as a member and officer of the Oswego County Medical Society, and as a member of the American Medical Association. Dr. Norfleet is survived by his wife Doren, son and daughter in law Eben and Kristin Norfleet, of Oswego, son and daughter in law Justin and Lisa Norfleet, of Oswego, daughter and son in law Denen and Simon Boyce of Washington D.C., sister Barbara Scott of Erie, Penn.

and the lights of his life his grandchildren Preston and Addison Norfleet. A private memorial service will be held at the Church of the Resurrection on Saturday March 30, 2019 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Dr. Norfleet’s name can be given to the Human Concerns Center, 85 East 4th Street, Oswego, NY 13126; the Oswego County Humane Society, 29 West Seneca Street, Oswego, NY 13126; or the Dana Farber Institute in Boston, Massachusetts at www. dana-farber.org.

The family will welcome everyone to attend a Celebration of Life to honor Dr. Norfleet in June at the family home.
