Funeral services for Dennis Shawn Hancock, 41, of Gladewater will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Gladewater with Brother Gary Don Holley officiating. Interment will follow at Gladewater Memorial Park. Shawn passed away Friday, June 29, 2018, in Tyler.

Shawn was born April 11, 1977 to the late Dennis McCullough and Beulah Hancock of Amarillo, Texas. A resident of Truman W. Smith Children’s Center, Gladewater for the last 25 years after sustaining… Read More » a spinal cord injury which left him paralyzed from the neck down, he never let his injury stop him from living life to the fullest. One of his favorite Bible verses was: “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”.

Philippians 4:13. Shawn loved playing video games. He was a sports enthusiast and was extremely knowledgeable about what was relevant in sports.

Shawn especially loved football and was a huge San Francisco Forty-Niner fan. He also enjoyed watching LeBron James play basketball. Shawn was not one to give up and even had an entrepreneurial side that evolved into his own business at Truman W. Smith that he called Shawn’s Snack Shack.

Shawn loved art and created paintings using a mouth stick. He was truly loved by all that knew him and will forever be remembered by all those he touched along his journey. Shawn is survived by his mother, Beulah Hancock, Amarillo; brother George Hancock, Amarillo; Granny Mother Velma Brown, Huntington; aunt Pearlene and uncle Eisenhower Lewis, Killeen; aunt Mary and uncle Johnny Raggen, Loveland; aunt Mae-Etta, Abilene; aunt Estella Anderson, Amarillo; uncle Joseph Hancock, Amarillo; uncle George Hicks, Beaumont; uncle David Hicks, Abilene; lots of cousins and other loving family and friends.

He is also survived by his extended family Mam-maw, Grandmother, Elsia Murphy; brothers Cameron and Quaylon Callaway, Alvin “Bo” Murphy, Larry Murphy and Edrick Murphy; aunts Alvinetha and Regina Murphy; sister Donta Murphy; nephews JaKyler Murphy and Cameron Callaway, Jr He is also survived by the staff and friends of Truman W. Smith Children’s Center; Special friends Tasha Wigginton and family; Paige and Stephen Woodfin and family; Jack and Linda Ainsworth and family; Dorothy adair; Sarah Hooks; Jimmy and Cathey Huber family. Shawn is preceded in death by father Dennis McCullough; sister Demethra Hancock; Granny Mom who raised him, Stella Mae Williams…who loved him to the moon and back, so we know he is happy now; three uncles and one cousin; his adopted Mom Alvenedia Tyeskie.

Shawn was loved by so many family members and friends. He loved his family dearly and spoke of them often. His extended family and the TWSCCC family were there for him and became his beloved friends and family as well.

Special thanks go to the Staff of Truman W. Smith Children’s Care Center and most recently to the staff of ETMC in Tyler, 2nd and 4th floors. Pallbearers are: Eisenhower Lewis, George Hancock, Alvin “Bo” Murphy, Cameron Callaway, Quay Callaway, Brandon Jerrod Jackson, Chris Cooks, Victor Bell and Joe Sciarrini. Honorary pallbearers are: Austin Pruitt, Isaiah Castille, Kevin “Scotty” Malley, Phillip Miller, Montrei Fogle, and Jordan Bradshaw.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Croley Funeral home in Gladewater.
