Derril E. Masters, 86, of Herrin, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018, at the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Anna. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Cambria Christian Church, with Pastor Jeff Wiggs officiating. Inurnment will be in Blairsville Cemetery, with military rites by the Herrin V.F.W. and American Legion Post, Carterville American Legion Post, and Army National Guard Ritual Team.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Department at the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Anna. Derril was born on August 7, 1931, in Bush, to Vernon and Georgia (Yates) Masters.

He married Alice Jolene Tyner on December 21, 1951, in Cambria. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jolene Masters of Herrin; daughters, Cathi (John) Roth of Johnston City and Melissa Masters of Miami, Florida; son, Brent (Diane) Masters of Carterville; grandchildren, Kim (Chris) Crowson of Carterville, Kyle Masters of Memphis, Tennessee, Jamie “Nikki” (Tyler) Pedigo of Herrin, Timothy (April) Wilkins of Johnston City, Thomas (Ali) Clay of Benton, Rachel Roth (Jerry Bowlin) of Carbondale, Renee (Doug Grisham) of Valrico, Florida, and Kelly (Mandi) McKnight of Marion; 10 great-grandchildren who fondly referred to him as “Poppi”; and sisters, Norma McKenzie of Carterville, Cecil Miller of Bush, Donnie (Raymond) Davis of Herrin. Derril was preceded in death by his parents; son, Derril Lee Masters; daughter, Candace Lynn Wilkins; grandson, David Paul Masters; great-grandsons, Wyatt Clay and Blake Grisham; brother, Bill Masters; and sister, Marilyn King.

He honorably served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired as CEO in 1998, after 45 years of service at American Magnetics in Carterville. Derril was a faithful member of Cambria Christian Church.

He was a talented woodworker who enjoyed gardening and traveling. Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville is in charge of arrangements.
