Dolores Von Rosen, July 06, 1937 — July 26, 2018

Obituary for Dolores von Rosen Dolores Ann Smith von Rosen of Chappells, beloved wife of Otto von Rosen, passed quietly, deeply loved, and surrounded by family on July 26th at 6:30 in the evening. Born in Wilmington VA on July 6th, 1937, she was a daughter of the late and Curtis and Velma Owen Smith. In her lifetime, amongst other things, she was a former Miss.

Greenwood, she received her master’s from Lander College, and taught Art and English, and various other classes, to thousands of students in schools throughout the US and Canada. She became a nationally renowned basket weaver, and mentor in some way to almost everyone she met. She was an active, thriving and beloved member of the Chappells Community, numerous basketry guilds (many of which she started) and her book club.

Up until the time of her passing, Dolores was an active and vibrant woman. She loved walking in the morning with her sister, husband and friends, still kayaked (when the weather was warm enough), loved reading, and playing Sudoku. She was busy making baskets for her daughter’s wedding up until her last day.

She will be incredibly missed by all who loved her and anyone who has ever met her. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 55 years, Otto von Rosen; a daughter, Viveka von Rosen, and soon to be son-in-law, Alan Martin; a sister, Betty Jo Scurry and her family, Dale, Jo and Anne; and her grand nieces and nephews, who were really more like grand children to her; Scurry, Jordan, Jacob, Johanna, Will and Leah. A celebration of life will be held at 3pm on Sunday at their home in Chappells.
