OBITUARY Donald Ray Oakley August 4, 1938 – September 6, 2018 Donald Ray Oakley 80 of Newburgh, IN passed away Thursday, September 6, 2018. He was born in Evansville, IN on August 4, 1938. He loved flowers and the garden.

Donald enjoyed listening to the Grand Old Opry each and every Friday and Saturday night. He was a very introverted man, who enjoyed life with his family and especially, his grandkids. He was always appreciative and never wanted more in life than what he had.

In his 80 years he said he learned: Be honest, be nice to people, work hard, never intentionally harm anyone, take it easy and enjoy life. Stay calm and let situations and people work through things. Donald attended St. Mathews and Terrence Park Baptist where he was baptized.

He worked construction with his father and at the First Avenue Trim Shop with his father in law. Donald retired from the Evansville Fire Department. During his 27 year career as a firefighter he was a lieutenant and a captain.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Glenda Kormelick and two nephews. He was survived by his wife of 60 years Sandra (Steele); daughter, Kim Ferguson, Angela Oakley-Word; son, Brett Oakley; sister, Jewell Forcum; brother, Terry Oakley; grandchildren, Shawn, Brittany McHugh, Jacob, Blaize, Caleb, Ellie Schmitt, Alexandra Oakley Kingston, Alizabeth, Hunter Oakley; 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Monday September 10, 2018, at Alexander West Chapel officiated by Rev.

Rod Hoschover. Friends may visit 2-6 PM Sunday September 9, 2018 at Alexander West Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Chemo Buddies FAMILY Sandra Oakley, Wife Kim Ferguson, Daughter Angela Oakley-Word, Daughter Brett Oakley, Son Jewell Forcum, Sister Terry Oakley, Brother Shawn McHugh, Grandchild Brittany McHugh, Grandchild Jacob Schmitt, Grandchild Blaize Schmitt, Grandchild Caleb Schmitt, Grandchild Ellie Schmitt, Grandchild Alexandra Oakley Kingston, Grandchild Alizabeth Oakley, Grandchild Hunter Oakley, Grandchild Donald also leaves behind, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
